Jazz Lab Band

The Jazz Lab Band is one of the two jazz bands at Lakes Community High School. The Jazz Lab Band has performed throughout the community and  at various jazz festivals, including the New Trier Jazz Festival and the Jazz In the Meadows Festival.

Students must complete a Jazz Screening in the fall in order to participate in Jazz Lab Band, the screening includes: major scales, excerpts from a prepared jazz chart, and improvisation skills. 

 

The Jazz Ensemble rehearses on Tuesdays from 6:00-8:00 PM. Please contact Mr. Kastor for more information.

Jazz Ensemble

The Jazz Ensemble is one of the premiere performing ensembles at Lakes Community High School. The Jazz Ensemble has performed throughout the community and throughout the state of Illinois at various jazz festivals, including the New Trier Jazz Festival and the Jazz In the Meadows Festival, receiving numerous superior ratings.

Students audition in the fall in order to participate in Jazz Ensemble, the audition includes: major scales (memorized), excerpts from a prepared jazz chart, and improvisation skills. 

 

The Jazz Ensemble rehearses on Mondays and Thursdays from 6:00-7:30 PM. Please contact Mr. Hile for more information.

Jazz Combo

The Jazz Combo is a small ensemble comprised of a rhythm section and solo instruments (trumpet, trombone, saxophone). The Jazz Combo requires all members to be highly knowledgeable in jazz improvisation. Students are highly encouraged to attend the Improv Club which typically meets after school on Mondays. The combo performs many "gigs" throughout the school year, both at school and community events.

The Jazz Combo meets on its own throughout the year, and is primarily led by students.
